Fall 2011

THIS COULD BE THE BIGGEST BOOK OF THE SUMMER!

Many, many thanks to everyone who attended our Inventory Books events last weekend. It was a pleasure to celebrate with old friends and new acquaintances. We met some hundreds of the latter at Manhattan’s Union Square last Saturday morning, many drawn in by our giant book and Dan Wood’s proclamation that, “This could be the biggest book of the summer!”

I switched from the morning’s green button-down shirt to orange for the evening, just in time to man the book table after the Fulton Mall walking tour. From all accounts, the tour was a success; pictures coming soon!

Last but not least—and following assembly of the giant-sized Street Value—we celebrated once more on Sunday afternoon, this time in a Lower East Side storefront filled with balloons, streamers, and much-needed cold beverages.

Again, many thanks to all who attended the events, and much appreciation to everyone who helped set things up. It was an amazing weekend, and certainly gratifying to hear so much enthusiasm about the series. I’m looking forward to hearing back from people when they’ve had a chance to read the books!

Fulton tour success!

a very expensive tour

A big thanks to everyone who came out to the Fulton Mall tour this last weekend. We had a great crowd, the weather was beautiful and Fulton Street was hopping. Some of my favorite New Yorkers were in attendance and a slew of people I’d never met, too.

The streetscape renovation was well underway and I’m happy to report that it seems to be moving relatively quickly. A lot of the mess I’d seen in May was cleared. The downside was that almost every trace of Lee Pomeroy’s 1980 design was gone, so there were fewer physical features to hang historical points on. On a street that is so notable for how many layers of history it can present at once, it’s more than a little sad to see the entire 1980′s renovation erased. I will say that the street does feel much more open without the bus shelters but at the same time, much less like a defined place.

I’ll share a few more photos next week but here’s a nice one courtesy of Jerome Chou and a storefront camera.

Watch this space for some more Street Value related events coming up throughout the summer.
